Canadian Society of Magazine Editors Shutting Down

The Canadian Society of Magazine Editors (CSME), a Toronto-based national non-profit organization, announces the closure of its operations, effective immediately.
In January 2020, CSME board members, who serve as volunteers, voted to bring operations, including accepting memberships and hosting events and the yearly awards, to an end. Chris Bond, CSME President.

“However, after evaluating our financial situation, dwindling membership numbers, and event attendance along with a variety of other potential directions to move in, we have decided that this is the appropriate time to exit,”
Established in 1991 to be the voice of Canadian editorial professionals in the magazine industry, CSME offered networking and professional development opportunities and also held the annual Editor’s Choice awards. However, changing times in the industry and a contraction of the membership base meant that events were consistently less well attended than expected, including the CSME Awards.
