, the largest online database of American and Canadian publications is reporting that in the first half of 2014, 93 magazines launched and 30 closed.
Eight Canadian magazines launched during the second quarter including Femmes, etc., CPA Magazine and the CPA Magazine French Edition. Five Canadian magazines folded, including Via Destinations and Profit: Your Guide to Business Success. Fresh Juice dropped its print edition.
Regional interest magazines were the most popular and six new print titles launched, including The Sip and 12th & Broad.
According to the database, last year during the same period there were 29 closures and 97 launches.
“While it appears that the magazine industry may be stabilizing, it is sad to see that two venerable magazines, Jet and Ladies Home, have dropped their print editions,” said Trish Hagood, president of MediaFinder.com. “We are seeing continued strength in specialized magazines such as regional and crafts.”
The business-to-business sector saw 15 new titles hit magazine stands during the first half of 2014 in comparison to 14 new titles last year.
