Regional magazine associations name their volunteers of the year
Magazine Canada’s Volunteer of the year Immee Chee Wah is in good company with the announcement of five more 2013 Volunteer of the Year Award recipients.
The awards are given out on behalf of Canada’s regional magazine associations and celebrate individuals that contribute to their industry way beyond work hours.
Melony Ward, publisher of Canada’s History & Kayak: Canada's History for Kids was named the 2013 Magazines Ontario Volunteer of the Year.
“People in magazine media are so generous with their knowledge and expertise,” she said. “Volunteering alongside them has taught me a lot about the many challenges of our business. Volunteering in any field – the arts, politics, social justice, healthcare, education – is hugely rewarding. We’re social creatures, and it feels good to contribute to building a community.”
Thom Knowles (Apple), Deborah Morrison (Canada’s National History Society), Emily Ursuliak (filling Station), and Darren Bernaerdt (Pacific Rim Magazine) will also be honoured on June 5, at Magazine Canada’s annual luncheon during MagNet.
