Alberta Magazines Conference: Session videos, award winners
If you missed the 2014 Alberta Magazines Conference, check out these videos of select sessions shared by the Alberta Magazines Publishers Association.

In a keynote address, Andrew Losowsky, an experienced editor/writer and current John S. Knight Fellow at Stanford University, talks about "the return of print" and argues that quality print publications still play a key role in the digital world.

In "Making Social Media Make Sense for Your Business Media," Jennifer Reynolds, digital media strategist at Reader's Digest, examines how social media can drive traffic, build a sense of community and generate revenue.

The third video features Matthew Bates, group creative director at Active Interest Media, discussing all things design including how audience research can drive a redesign.

The 18th annual Alberta Magazines Conference was held March 20-21 in Calgary, and featured the 2014 Alberta Magazine Awards. The awards gala honoured the previously announced achievement award winners and revealed the winners of 15 showcase categories.

Among the big winners were Calgary's Swerve, which took home a number of awards including Golds in Essay, Feature Design, Photograph (Landscape, Still Life and Architecture) and Service; plus Silvers for Alberta Story and Service.

Eighteen Bridges, another multiple winner, garnered Golds in Cover, Feature Writing (Short), Fiction and Poetry; and took home a Silver in the Fiction category.

Alberta Views received Gold for Alberta Story, Illustration and Photograph (People & Portraiture). Other Gold winners included Alberta Venture, FreeFall, Uppercase and Westworld.
