Cottage Life TV has a launch date. Parent company Blue Ant Media will rebrand one of its speciality channels, Bold, as Cottage Life on Sept. 4, 2013.
Developing a dedicated station was one of the first major plans in place after Blue Ant acquired Cottage Life Media in Dec. 2012. Speaking with Masthead last year
, Al Zikovitz, Cottage Life Media president and chief executive officer, said it was "no secret" that the brand coveted a home on the small screen.
"I think advertisers and readers are using multimedia and demanding multimedia a lot more for their information and to get their messages out there. I think we're at the forefront in that we will be able to offer all of that starting next year," Zikovitz said in December.
This isn't the first foray into TV for the 25-year-old brand, which at one time produced programs like Cottage Life television, Summer's Best Television, and World of Wakeboarding Television. Zikovitz said Cottage Life Media pulled out from those ventures due to lack of content control, which shouldn't be a problem now as part of Blue Ant's stable of speciality and premium channels.
The new Cottage Life channel will feature DIY, food, real estate and outdoor living programming, and will be available in over 9 million homes for a two-month free trial preview.
According to Blue Ant's Jennifer Mason, director of marketing communications and on-air, viewers can expect crossovers and content alignment with Cottage Life's other platforms. "For example, our TV personalities have and will participate on stage at the Cottage Life consumer shows and be called upon as experts in editorial online and in the magazine," she said.
Further along, Mason said popular TV personalities will likely have both their own series on the channel plus regular features in the print magazine and on the website.
