BPA releases year-end circ figures; Zoomer sees big jump at newsstand
BPA Worldwide (CCAB in Canada) has released its circulation data for the six-month period ended Dec. 31, and it reveals some positive figures in newsstand sales.

Zoomer saw newsstand success with a 125.2 percent increase (14,544 average single-copy sales as of Sept. 30), while its 154,907 subs represents a drop of 8.6 percent.

Chirp magazine saw a 99.8 percent rise in newsstand sales (2,236 in the period) as of Sept. 30, but a slight decline of four percent in subs (65,406). Its sister publication Chickadee also saw a healthy incline at the retail level, with sales rising 81.3 percent as of Sept. 30 (3,119 single-copy sales). Chickadee's subs, at 78,974 for the period, is a drop of 9.4 percent from last period.

Canadian Family boosted its newsstand sales by 43.8 percent, with 3,057 single-copy sales, but saw a 12.5 percent decrease in subs which sit at 24,762 for the period as of Sept. 30.

On the other side of the coin, Gardenwise saw a 82.1 percent drop at the newsstand (2,870 average single-copy sales in period) and a 2.3 percent decline in subs (10,036). Parents Canada dropped 40 percent in single copies (795) but enjoyed a 36 percent rise in subs (2,803).

Meanwhile, ABC recently released its figures for the same period. Magazines posting big gains at the newsstand include Maclean's (77 percent up at 36,291 average copy sales) and French-language title L’actualité up 47 percent (22,214 single-copy sales). Seeing a significant drop in single-copy sales were MoneySense (-31 percent), Canadian Geographic (-27 percent), Clin D'Oeil (-38 percent) and Canadian Art (-33 percent).
