Hamilton next on postal union's strike list
Postal workers in Hamilton will be the next to hit the bricks as negotiations between their national union and Canada Post continue.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) said today that Winnipeg postal workers, who went on strike last night, will return to duty tonight but union members in Hamilton will begin a 48-hour walkout at 11:45 p.m. EDT.
Yesterday, Canada Post tabled some compromises relating to wages and vacation time for new hires, the short-term disability program and other sticking points. The union said it met with Canada Post officials earlier today "and provided our response to their most recent proposal. Management is currently considering our position."
The union is using rotating strikes as a negotiation tactic.
