Girlworks launches iPad application
Girlworks magazine, which launched late last year has announced the release of an iPad application for the magazine. Publisher Janet Kim says taking the magazine digital was a part of the plan from day one. “We planned the launch of the magazine around the launch of the iPad,” she says. “We launched the magazine in late 2009 because we knew Apple was going to release an e-reader and we knew it would be in colour.”

The Girlworks application is not a game, says Kim but a digital version of the magazine. Issues are available for $1.99 and will be published bi-monthly. “The second we send our magazine to the printer we send the digital copy to our developer, Digital Megs.”

Advertising on the iPad application is free for companies that also advertise in the print copy of the magazine until the end of the year, says Kim who has just started seeking out advertising for the book.

Girlworks
magazine is published by Girlworks Media Inc. and is published bi-monthly, distributed to stores across Canada and in the U.S.
