Synowicki leaves Disticor
Veteran newsstand man Stan Synowicki has parted ways with Ajax, Ont.-based magazine distribution company Disticor following a reorganization that saw the elimination of his role as vice president, business development.

Synowicki began in the newsstand business in 1981 at Metro News, where he brought magazine racks to many non-traditional retailers, such as HMV, Sam the Record Man, Pusateri's and Blockbuster, before moving on to CMMI in 1995. He joined Disticor in 2004 when the company purchased the North American distribution business of Gordon & Gotch Periodicals.

Though he's seen a great deal of change since he started in the business 28 years ago—more titles, fewer independent retailers, less shelf-space—Synowicki says he's "not ready to leave the business full-time" and wants to continue working in the industry in some capacity. "It's a great medium," he says. 'There isn't anybody that doesn't love to receive a magazine."
