NDP candidate Dana Larsen, who edited Cannabis Culture magazine from 1994 to 2004, quit the race yesterday after the Globe and Mail "asked him about his involvement with the Vancouver Seed Bank, a business that sells Peruvian coca seedlings."
"I didn't want this to distract from the larger issues of the campaign. Since it seemed to be something people would be focusing on, I decided to submit my resignation," he said in an interview with the Toronto Star.
There's more. According to the Canwest papers:
Old video surfaced showing Dana Larsen lighting a mouth stuffed full of marijuana joints, taking hallucinogenic drugs and driving while stoned.
Clips shown on television news show Larsen taking hallucinogenic drugs including LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) and DMT (dimethyltryptamine).
After taking DMT, he was shown driving a vehicle."We finished our psychedelic voyaging for the evening and now we're just driving home, smoking our very last joint that I rolled in advance," Larsen said on tape from the now defunct pot.tv.
This video, as far as we can tell, is unavailable online. If you find it, please send us the link. The video can be viewed here.
According to his website, Larsen, 37, is a founding member of both the Marijuana Party of Canada and the B.C. Marijuana Party. "Dana is also the author of a humorous book called Hairy Pothead and the Marijuana Stone." He was running in the riding of West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast.
