Sparksheet
Sparksheet is a multiplatform magazine that explores the unexpected connections between different parts of the media and marketing universe, from journalism and entertainment, to advertising and technology. We believe that we are living in a world where media outlets are becoming more like brands and brands are becoming more like media. While content creators are experimenting with new business models and digital platforms, businesses are using content to tell their stories, engage people, and make money. As a business-to-business magazine, our mission is to help media and marketing professionals make sense of these changes and to spark new ideas for how brands can use content to communicate in a more human, compelling and platform-agnostic way. Powered by Spafax, a WPP content marketing agency, we are committed to being an editorially independent and transparent industry publication. We are not published on behalf of a client and we don’t have any advertising or sponsored content on the site unless specifically noted. Through our website, our mobile and tablet applications, our branded social media channels and our podcast, we strive to inform and inspire our audience with magazine-quality editorial and design.

UBC Journalism
The work submitted for consideration was produced as a course assignment in Integrated Journalism (iJournalism). This is the core journalism course at the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of British Columbia. It is designed to familiarize students with the grammar and syntax of media across platforms, including text, audio and video. It provides hands-on experience in a simulated multimedia environment. Emphasis is placed on accuracy, meeting deadlines, and learning the elements of journalistic style. UBC Journalism is a unique, boutique journalism masters program in one of the most beautiful, diverse and progressive cities in the world. It is one of only four masters-only journalism programs in North America, and the only graduate journalism program in western Canada. Faculty members come from the highest levels of major media organizations, as well as leaders in digital journalism and media scholarship. We pride ourselves on our one-on-one approach with students, working closely with the aspiring journalists who go through our program, and often continuing to mentor them long after they graduate. The Master of Journalism degree is a full-time, intensive program that runs over five semesters, including a summer internship. It is designed to provide graduates with professional experience and academic grounding, to help students succeed as a journalist in any medium. Students learn everything from long-form writing to web, video and audio production, social media analytics, investigative reporting skills and critical analysis of news. Our distinctive approach to journalism education has two components: academic specialization and applied training. This involves creating a program of study focused on an academic area — relevant to your background and interests —along with courses in media theory and ethics. Paired with the academic training is hands-on work with professional equipment alongside experienced professionals.

Canadian Living
Canadian Living is Canada's most trusted magazine. From our Tested-Till-Perfect recipes that have inspired Canadians to cook at home for decades, through to our Women's College Hospital-vetted health content, we go beyond the basics to provide the best recipes and information for women coast to coast to coast. We bring that deep relationship with our readers to life throughout our digital channels, which has positioned CanadianLiving.com as Canada's largest magazine website for women. We deliver content when our readers want it in the spaces they enjoy: online, iPad, apps, mobile and social media channels. With how-tos to inform, stories to engage and visual storytelling to inspire our readers, we make the connection between what's happening now and what they need — and want — to know. We're also right in the moment with our audience: From cheering on Team Canada in real time, debunking the latest fad diet, or examining parenting trends, we connect what's in the news to our readers' daily experiences. We bring our readers the latest trends as they create their personal space and style, showing how to bring the latest colours into their homes or how to introduce runway style into their wardrobes. In presenting stories about Canadians that touch and inspire us to reach further, we offer our readers a window on what's possible. From the prettiest cupcakes to the best honeymoon spots we help readers celebrate milestones, small and large. And in creating integrated packages that bring together content in practical as well as inspiring ways — for example, a month's worth of family-friendly recipes, cooking techniques and downloadable shopping lists — we help busy Canadians find the time to focus on what's most important to them.
