The Opportunity

CPA Canada is embarking on an exciting transition to position the organization as an influential thought leader in the Canadian business community and a leading Canadian professional organization with a first class editorial content operation—one that will create value for current and future Chartered Professional Accountants, as well as make the CPA Canada a trusted source for both large and small Canadian businesses.

Our Marketing, Communications and Public Affairs (MCPA) group is seeking a Creative Copywriter to craft fresh ideas and write copy that catches the eye, engages the audience and convinces them to act. The copywriter reviews and executes on client briefs to conceive, develop and produce effective brand marketing copy for CPA Canada’s digital and traditional channels.

As part of the Production Studio, the copywriter will deliver clear, impactful and actionable headlines and copy for communications such as advertising, articles, brochures, emails, social media, web content and video scripts. The copywriter will make recommendations to stakeholders in regard to brand image, target audiences and messaging.

The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
• Generating attention-grabbing headlines, taglines and copy for web, print and digital
• Interpreting production briefs and meeting with stakeholders to discuss requirements, core messages and target audiences
• Conducting thorough research and interviews on topics as required to enrich content and ensure accuracy of all copy
• Brainstorming ideas and concepts with designers
• Ensuring that content tone and style is consistent with CPA brand guidelines and key messaging
• Providing editing, proofreading and general quality control
• Documenting schedules and tracking progress, highlighting any issues as they arise to ensure proactive management of potential delays
• Communicating and coordinating effectively, keeping both the brand marketing team and Production Studio informed of progress as appropriate
• Continually improving content for online consumption and SEO
• Monitoring and tracking performance and trends leveraging analytics to refine and optimize copy
• Providing recommendations for increasing overall campaign effectiveness based on data/analysis

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:
• Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or other
relevant discipline
• 5+ years of proven ability to write catchy, persuasive copy and build an engaged audience, demonstrated by a strong portfolio
• Ability to write in a variety of tones and create compelling marketing copy for a variety of channels in a way that connects to audiences and inspires action
• Excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation skills
• Proofreading and copy editing experience
• Exceptional attention to detail
• Technical knowledge/understanding of social media platforms, metrics and tracking
• Full proficiency with Microsoft office applications including Word, PowerPoint and Excel
• Excellent project management and organizational skills, including the proven ability to handle multiple complex projects simultaneously
• Ability to thrive in a fast paced, on-time deliverable environment
• Creative and proactive communication skills both written and verbal and consensus building skills
