Brand awareness and organic marketing works good for larger franchise systems but for the ones that are new, require some investment to generate leads. Every franchise systems is different; but you must be creative with what you have and make sure your clear on your strategy first so you’re return on invest is strong. Before you apply a marketing budget you need to look at your target audience is carefuly and what territory you want to expand with your campagn to find franchisees.”

CFA produces Franchise Canada, a multi-channel media outlet committed to delivering the best content to help Canadians achieve their dreams of business ownership through franchising. We are looking for a seasoned editor and content producer to join our team for a year while our editor raises a new human.

What the ideal editor looks like:
Writing clear and compelling content is second nature to you. You find yourself proofreading everything, and take great pleasure in catching typos, dangling participles, and resolving subject-verb disagreements. You know the CP Style Guide will not help you decide what to wear. You have a knack for transforming complex concepts and stuffy text into easily understood and engaging copy. You know WordPress and how content drives advertising. Maybe you’re a blogger. Maybe you have a website or have helped build websites for your friends. You love creating order out of chaos, and on thrive juggling priorities. You do whatever it takes to get the job done.

What you will do:
• Lead the editorial content strategy, direction, and execution for the Association across multiple platforms, including print, digital, website, and video
• Produce original content for Franchise Canada, as well as manage each issue through the production process
• Deliver engaging, timely, and relevant online content, with a focus on producing online extensions of print publications
• Maintain and manage relationships with freelance writers, content contributors, and publishing vendors
• As part of a team, develop and launch new products and services, both in print and online, that will benefit the Association’s members
• Attend and assist at CFA events as required
• Assist in special projects and other tasks as assigned by CFA leadership

Skills Required:
• University graduate in communications, journalism or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or work experience
• Excellent organizational and administrative skills and attention to detail
• Exceptional command of English (written and spoken)
• Experience in writing for a range of communications vehicles including websites, media releases, and editorial
• Familiarity with the WordPress content management system
• Minimum of 5 years experience in an editorial role
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, and ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Ability to work under pressure, be flexible to change, and work to timelines
• Ability to work weekends and evenings, as required
• Experience in a business association or membership-based environment would be an asset
• Ability to speak and write French would be a significant asset

This is a full-time, one-year maternity leave contract position.
Start Date: April 16, 2018

CFA is located in Toronto on the Mississauga/Toronto border near Pearson International Airport, with access by highway and public transit (Mississauga and Toronto). Plentiful free parking.
